I had a goal of 38 books to read in 2021 - they're listed at the link if you're interested. I read 10 of those books in the first 3 months of the year! At the very beginning of April, I received some news that turned my world upside-down. I haven't had the desire, time, or mental/emotional energy to read fiction since then. I've read a lot of self-help articles online and a couple non-fiction books. I finally picked up a fiction book again the day after Christmas and I'm hoping to get back into reading next year.
In 2021, I participated (sort of) in the Back to the Classics, Chunkster Reading Challenge, and other challenges/goals of my own. I didn't read a Christmas book this year, but I did read a play - which I try to do every year! I also started a book club with my friends, but that only lasted 2 months before it fizzled out. Below is what I read in 2021, organized by challenge. My reviews are linked to the book titles.

I hope there will be a Back to the Classics 2022 reading challenge, but nothing has been posted yet. I have a large TBR shelf right now, so I'm planning on focusing more on that next year rather than doing a bunch of online challenges.
Hopping over from the Back to Classics wrap-up link. Great work on completing so many challenges! So impressive! I read a Bronte novel this year, but it was my least favorite so far: Villette. It was really hard to connect with her, which is interesting since it's semi-autobiographical of Charlotte. I loved Jane Eyre, Tenet of Wildfell Hall, and Agnes Grey, and only kinda enjoyed The Professor and Wuthering Heights (I just couldn't stand the main characters), but I would like to eventually read Shirley so I can complete the Bronte novels. I read The Innocence of Father Brown for this challenge as well! I really enjoyed it and found it interested that you compared Father Brown to Miss Marple and Poirot, since I love Agatha Christie's mysteries.
ReplyDeleteHere's my list, if interested! https://elle-alice.blogspot.com/2021/12/back-to-classics-wrap-up-post.html
Thanks for the comment! I loved Jane Eyre and Tenant. I hated Wuthering Heights and all the others were OK. I'm planning on reading some more Father Brown in 2022.
DeleteI really like your idea of choosing an author to concentrate on every year. I saw something similar on a couple of Youtube vlogs I follow and am going to think about that idea to see if I can come up with an author.
ReplyDeleteI have favorite authors that I'd like to read more of, so having a list/goal helps me. The Bronte Sisters have 7 books between them, which I finished last year.
